So about six months ago, news came trickling out that Fox was working on a television series adaptation of Mike Carey’s wonderful comic Lucifer. I was something less than optimistic.

I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that our fears were even worse than originally imagined. The good news is that it’s a fantastic excuse to get day drunk.

Here’s the information we didn’t have last time.

First, Len Wiseman, the guy who made all those Underworld movies, is directing the pilot. Oh I’m glad they found such a subtle hand for the nuance.

Second, Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the executive producers and Jerry Bruckheimer Television is running the whole thing.

Third, while the show will be set in Los Angeles after Lucifer quits Hell and opens a bar, they’re changing the focus to his hijinks helping the LAPD solve crimes.

Yes, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable plot change to an existential trip through the surreal mythologies of a dozen cultures and the struggle between predestination and free will.

Oh wait, what I meant was that there’s not enough vodka in the world for this bullshit.

Let’s check in with another television Lucifer to get his take on the situation:

Well then.
