Well, it looks like Marvel and I have something in common: we’re both “courting” Chiwetel Ejiofor. Of course, while my courtship takes place only (if perpetually) inside my own mind, Marvel’s is very real. Ejiofor is apparently in talks to join the cast of Doctor Strange.
So who will he play? According to the Hollywood Reporter,
Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role, but some insiders have pooh-poohed that. The villain is likely to be classic bad guy Baron Mordo, a sorcerer’s pupil whose next-in-line status is usurped by Strange, thus making him the physician’s mortal enemy.Hmmm… if you’ll remember, the original shortlist of casting possibilities for the Ancient One was a little more… ancient. (Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy, and Ken Watanabe were all being considered, with no one confirmed.) I’ll admit that Doctor Strange is a character I know very little about, so I’ll leave it up to the nerdier among us: who would you like to see Chiwetel playing? I’m all for the villain route. For obvious reasons.
If Marvel feels like mixing up ethnicities, a possible role could be that of Wong, the monk servant to Strange who is adept in martial arts. Another possibility is the role of the Ancient One, a semi-immortal mystic who mentors Strange and is the sorcerer supreme of this dimension.
