It doesn’t seem like it can already be over two years since Jane Campion’s excellent Top of the Lake aired on Sundance Channel, and we got to see a completely different side of Elisabeth Moss. While we’d long adored Peggy Olson, it was refreshing to see her as Detective Robin Griffin — that simmering strength finally released into the wild. The heartbreaking series was one of 2013’s best; its unflinching look into human behavior and emotions reminds me a lot of another great Sundance series — Rectify.
Though a second season’s long been rumored in the works, we’ve not heard much news, other than that Moss was expected to return. In an interesting turn of events, a certain Scientology adjacent A-list actress coyly announced she’ll be reuniting with her Portrait of a Lady director.
I’m sure she didn’t mean that, Elisabeth. It’s just a bit of leftover Scientolorage.
Here’s a mellower picture:
While I don’t often enjoy *serious* Kidman, I love when she goes loose cannon — part To Die For here, part Stoker there, so I’m really hoping she plays a someone off-kilter, a killer or unexpectedly crazypants evil.
So far there are no real details on Top’s second season; all we really know is that it’ll be shot in Sydney (with some reports the action will also feature Hong Kong), and writer Gerard Lee will again team with Campion to write the scripts.
