When One Guy Says: "Kill Yourself," He Literally Means: "Kill Yourself"

  • To tide us over until November, TBS is working up a special featuring Andy Richter and written by Conan O’Brien’s writers. The title: “Team Coco Presents Conan’s Writers Live.” I thought Conan hates the Coco nickname? I guess he’s embraced it. It will air on June 27th. (Deadline)

  • Commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch, who is directing the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, has been given another remake to direct: Logan’s Run. For those unfamiliar with the 1976 original, Logan’s Run is about a young man at odds with his society’s mandatory death sentence for all those turning 21. He plots a daring escape on the eve of his fateful birthday. Rinsch replaces Joseph Kosinski, who was at one time attached (as was Bryan Singer). (Heatvision)

  • Steve Carell may play Dennis Lambert, a singer-songwriter (he wrote “We Built This City”) who only ever gained any real popularity in the Philippines. At the age of 60, Lambert — who was then a real estate guy — was convinced to do a 5-city tour in the Philippines. That became the subject of a documentary (Of All the Things), and now that documentary is being developing into a movie. And Carell is being courted to star. (Vulture)

  • Many have tried, and they’ve all failed, so far, to make a movie based on Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. Now, one enterprising producer, John Aglialoro, is determined to do so. He owns the rights. He’s hired a director (an inexperienced one, at that), in Louis Polk. And he’s set to start filming next month. The catch? He has no cast. At all. He wants Maggie Gyllenhaal or Charlize Theron for the lead, but given the big names who have been attached to this project in the past (including Angelina Jolie) and the fact that it’s still never come to fruition, I have no idea how this man is going to push this movie through by sheer force of will. (Deadline)

  • This is only interesting if you’ve seen the Swedish version of Girl With a Dragon Tattoo (which is very good, by the way), but this is a picture of Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace), without all of the Goth attire. It’s kind of striking. (via Roger Ebert’s Twitter):

  • Cary Elwes has been brought in for a role in Ivan Reitman’s still untitled movie (formerly Fuckbuddies) as a flirtatious physician. The movie will star Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, who will have a friends with benefits type relationship. (Variety)

  • “Lost’s” Michael Emerson explained yesterday that there will be a special epilogue to the show in the DVD, out this August, that will offer a glimpse into the island life of Ben and Hurley, after the death of Jack. That is actually kind of cool. (G4)

  • Jason Sudeikis has joined the cast of Horrible Bosses, a workplace (dark) comedy about four employees who agree to kill each other’s bosses. It also stars Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, and Charlie Day, among others. (THR)

  • So, this is not movie-related at all, and only came to my attention via Kevin Smith’s twitter account, but there’s some dude who has been banned from using the Internet until his next court hearing. He’s been accused of posing as a nurse and trolling suicide prevention boards and encouraging people to kill themselves. He’s actually been successful twice. How fucked up is that, people? (And do you think we can convince him to have a chat with Michael Bay?) (Newser)
