With Two Seasons to Go, What Is the 'Perfect Conclusion' For 'The Americans'?

It was announced today that The Americans has been renewed for two final seasons. Despite the fact that I don’t know a single person IRL who doesn’t live in my home who watches this, it’s one of the very best shows on television, and FX has kept it on the air longer than anyone ever expected them to, seemingly solely because they believed in its quality.

So let’s celebrate.

In a press release, FX praised the show.

Through its first four seasons, critics have lauded The Americans as one of the best shows on television and, remarkably, a series that keeps getting better every year. We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel [Weisberg and Fields, respectively] to tell this story to its perfect conclusion.

So with two seasons and change to go, what do we see as that “perfect conclusion?” What do we NEED to see happen? And what do we never expect to feel satisfied over? What predictions and hopes do we have for this final act? I’ve got a few.

Something something Paige Something
I honestly don’t know what I want to happen with Paige. But after she almost got everything seriously fucked with Pastor Tim’s wife and her probably real taped expose, SOMETHING BIG HAS TO HAPPEN HERE. Is she going to go spy? Go double agent against her parents? Paige— one of my favorites from season 3— is bugging the crap out of me this season but I trust that something huge is going to happen with her.

Pastor Tim has to die, right?
But then that means his wife does, too. And she’s pregnant, and oh god I don’t want to think about this any more. It’s giving me my weekly Americans stress hives a few hours early.

Is this really the last we’ve seen of Martha? I can’t stop thinking she HAS to reappear.

The Rezidentura
I feel legitimately terrible that I have to admit I can never keep up with what’s happening at the Rezidentura. I think it’s because I’m lazy with subtitles on an otherwise unsubtitled show, and not some hidden xenophobia. It’s probably both, right?

This isn’t a prediction, only a hope. That in two seasons this show will fit in a hundred more wigs. A thousand! ALL THE WIGS THAT EVER WERE!

They have to get caught, right?
Did you read that recent Guardian piece about the real-life Americans kids who were sent to Russia after finding out their parents were spies? Ever since reading that, I can’t help but think that’s only way for this show to end. But who will find them out? Will it be Stan? Dumb Henry? WHAT WILL BE THEIR DOWNFALL?

If they do have to get taken down— AND I DON’T WANT THEM TO— I only hope it’s at the hands of Kimmy.
