Looks like Carey Mulligan (An Education, On Chesil Beach, Violet and Daisy is ready to switch things up. The actress is in negotiations to join Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston in an adaptation of James Sallis’ Drive. Nicolas Winding Refn (Pusher, Bronson) will direct the action/thriller, a tale of a Hollywood stuntman who, on his down time, doubles as a bank heist getaway car driver. Of course there’s the inevitable robbery gone wrong, leaving our lead man Gosling on the run with another man’s girl, the fair Miss Mulligan.
Drive has rave reviews over on Amazon (has anyone read the novel?) and this trio would certainly make for a fun, well-acted ride. I’d like to see Mulligan overcome her insane cuteness and rough it up a bit and speaking of rough, let’s hope Cranston has on his badass hat. A little Walter White makes everything better.
Drive is set to begin production September 2010.
