Powerhouse franchises don’t always come in regular installments. Sometimes the directors or actors get too busy to return to it, sometimes interest wanes and you have to wait for a nostalgia revival, sometimes a “nostalgia revival” happens purely as a crass money grab. So it’s up to you to guess why Jeepers Creepers 3 was just announced at the Toronto Film Festival 12 years after Jeepers Creepers 2.
The good new for fans of critters that hunt people for their delicious parts on remarkably regular schedules is that Francis Ford Coppola is still behind this installment, along with writer-director Victor Salva, actor Jonathan Breck as the Creeper, and actor Brandon Smith as Sergeant Davis Tubbs. So the crucial parts of the creative team and core cast are in place, and filming is scheduled to begin early next year in Vancouver. I hope that makes some of you very happy, for me this has always sounded a bit like a rip off of the Eugene Victor Tooms storyline on The X-Files, which got the added creepy bonus of involving an actor who only got creepier later.
