What Happens with Forces Good and Evil Combine for Profit?

In that previous post I wrote about Katherine Heigl’s perception problem, I was trying to think of an actor or three that manages to maintain a positive public perception — at least among the majority of our readers — while consistently making bad films (a future SRL, perhaps). The guy that strikes me most eligible for that position would be Dwayne Johnson, who most of us really like despite a series of heinous family-friendly flicks like The Tooth Fairy. The fact that Agent Bedhead — who gets saddled with most of his movies — continues to carry a torch for the guy speaks volumes about his image.

If it were possible to destroy it (and I doubt that it is), a project that Lionsgate just picked up might just do it. Dwayne Johnson will be teaming up with another member of the Pajiba Axis of Evil, Tyler Perry, in a movie called … oh God … Take My Wife.

Deadline is reporting that Perry will play the lead — sans drag — in the film about a recently divorced man who realizes the only way to get out of paying alimony to his ex is to find her a new husband. So, he gives a rough-around-the-edges guy, Dwayne Johnson, a makeover of sorts to make him more appealing to his wife. However, conflict arises when Perry’s character falls back in love with his ex-wife and has to compete with Dwayne Johnson for her affections.

If he beats out Johnson, then the film instantly loses all credibility. What woman, in any conceivable scenario, would choose Tyler Perry over Dwayne Johnson? Unless she was blind, deaf, and a little brain damaged, It could never, ever happen.

The small twist in this story is that Tyler Perry actually won’t be directing the film, so at least it won’t be, Tyler Perry’s: Take My Wife. I do look forward, however, to Bedhead’s eventual review, and what kind of critic she will become after it tears her soul apart.
