Fox has released the trailer for their 2015 series Wayward Pines produced by M. Night Shyamalan and based on the series of novels by Blake Crouch.

Boy, where to begin. I hope the twist at the end is that David Lynch wouldn’t give up the rights to a new Twin Peaks, because what else can you say about this? The trailer seems kind of fun/watchable up until the introduction of the quirky Sheriff’s secretary, and a law enforcement officer who seems to really enjoy ice cream because PIE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO OBVIOUS.

The trailer seems to incorporate elements of The Truman Show as well as CBS’ series Under The Dome. With the possible addition of a series based on Stephen King’s The Mist, we could be looking at a lot of small quirky towns with entrapped populations next year.

So what do you guys think about Matt Dillon filling in for Kyle MacLachlan? How about Juliette Lewis as this series’ Audrey Horne?

Do we think Wayward Pines has “damn good” espresso? What about their cronuts? Or maybe an old woman who talks to her recycling?

Can Shyamalan’s twist-based storytelling work for more than just a mini-series? Has anyone read the books who might be able to fill us in on whether there is something to be excited for here, or does the ad accurately portray the derivative nature of the subject matter?
