High Fidelity, Say Anything, The Grifters, Grosse Point Blank, One Crazy Summer, Better Off Dead? What the hell happened to John Cusack? Is he the Rob Reiner of actors: Brilliant first half of a career that falls off a cliff in the second half? Is it that no one wants to work with him? Has his script-choosing judgment been clouded? Have the right-wing conspiracy theories damaged his brain? What is going on? It was America’s Sweethearts, wasn’t it? Playing opposite Julia Roberts gave him brain damage. Such a shame to throw away a perfectly good white boy.
Anyway, now he’s following up The Raven and a series of other misfires with The Numbers Station, one of NINE films he has set for release in 2013. Will any of them be any damn good? If the trailer for The Numbers Station is any indication, it seems highly unlikely. It’s about a former black ops agent and the young woman (Malin Akerman) he’s assigned to protect fight for survival after a surprise attack.
Cusack actually utters the line, “YOU HAVE TO CRACK THE CODE.”
