The World Champion of the 23rd Annual Air Guitar competition was awarded on Friday in Oulu, Finland, and her name is Nanami Nagura, who is from Japan and is better known as Seven Seas. She also won four years ago, and based on this performance, you can see exactly why this head-banging Cinderalla guitarist took the top prize (jump to the 25 second mark and crank up the volume).
In the competition, which pitted the 14 best air guitarists in the world against each other, each contestant played a song of their own choosing and then improvised a routine to “Hopeless Case Of A Kid In Denial” by the Swedish rock band The Hellacopters.
Second place, by the way, went to the winner of the last two years, American Matt “Airistotle” Burns, who definitely wins for the most expressive face (jump to the 45-second mark).
Also, if this interests you (and it should), do check out the fantastic documentary, Air Guitar Nation, which at one point was going to be turned into a movie produced by Justin Theroux.
The winner of the competition wins an actual guitar, which will almost certainly collect dust in a corner.
