The Gillian Jacobs/Keira Knightley kiss really is incidental, but — you know — who is going to click on, “Trailer for Steve Carell High-Concept Comedy”? And then you’d miss out on the trailer for what looks like a fairly decent summer time flick. It helps that I like Steve Carell — he has soft, sad features that often work in the right role, even if the right role is not necessarily in a great movie (see Dan in Real Life).
Seeking a Friend at the End of the World has a bit of a silly gimmick at its core: A meteor is set to smack into the Earth, killing us all, and we have three weeks left to live. During that time, Carell sets out with a neighbor (Keira Knightley) to find the one that got away. But, it looks sweet and harmless, and it might even being surprisingly decent, like last summer’s Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Plus, Gillian Jacobs totally kisses Keira Knightley.
