'Warcraft' Movie Cast Announced at BlizzCon

Yesterday at BlizzCon director Duncan Jones officially announced the cast of the upcoming Warcraft movie, along with brief character descriptions. I have only the vaguest grasp of World of Warcraft but I know enough to know that some of you are going to be heavily invested in the Alliance/Horde split. There are more announced characters for The Alliance, which might tell us a little bit about the plot. There’s a full rundown over at io9 but the highlights are:

  • Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar, the lead protagonist for the Alliance.

  • Dominic Cooper as King Llan Wrynn of the Alliance

  • Ben Foster as Medivh a “mysterious and reclusive protector” of the Alliance

  • Paula Patton as Garona, a conflicted but strong survivor caught between the Alliance and the Horde

  • Toby Kebbel as Durotan, the lead protagonist for the Horde and chieftan of the Frostwolf Clan

  • Clancy Brown as Blackhand, a “fearsome and titanic warchief”

  • Rob Kazinsky as Orgrim, a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer
There’s a few more listed over at io9, along with the news that the BlizzCon attendees got to record the battle cries for the Alliance and the Horde.
