A few days ago, I had mentioned that Denis Villeneuve had directed a sequel of sorts to 1984’s Blade Runner. The results of which have me keyed the fuck up.

Well, get ready to throw on your sweatpants because the good news train keeps delivering. Back in November, Legendary Studios secured the rights to Frank Hebert’s Dune granting the production entity not only rights to film but also TV-based projects on the sci-fi property.

And it gets better.

Variety is reporting that Denis Villeneuve has been offered the directing gig for Dune. THIS DUNE

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis. If Villeneuve accepts, this would have him moving on to Dune just after finishing and promoting the Blade Runner sequel in October of 2017.

Already 2017 is kicking 2016 in the teeth. Fingers crossed that Villeneuve accepts.
