Twitter Poet Laureate Jaden Smith Is Teaming Up With Baz Luhrmann For a Spectacular Spectacular of WTF
Baz Luhrmahnn has been developing his latest project, The Get Down, for 10 years. Set in New York in the late 70s, it’s meant to explore the creative explosion of hip hop, graffiti art, punk, and other music and art forms that coincided with a huge rise in violent crime and urban decay. This is a surprising but refreshing departure, since his films usually center around excessively Caucasian and excessively wealthy (or romantically impoverished) characters. According to Luhrmann, the show, which is being developed at Netflix, came out of an obsession “with the idea of how a city in its lowest moment, forgotten and half destroyed, could give birth to such creativity and originality in music, art and culture.”
And now Baz Luhrmann, master of the spectacular spectacular, has found his muse.
