After the drips and drabs of casting news over the past couple months, True Detective’s second season is finally starting to take shape. Whether or not we’ll like this slightly larger cast, and the new storyline is a whole other matter, but at least one of these names is very good news indeed.
Deadline reports the following actors are negotiating deals to join Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch:
1. Kelly Reilly
Though she lost out on the lead female cop, Black Box’s Reilly will play “self-possessed Morgan.”
2. Abigail Spencer
Spencer is fan-friggin-tastic on Rectify; for me, she’s (finally) a reason to be excited over this cast. Sadly, she’ll be in a recurring role as Alicia, survivor of a sexual attack.
3. Leven Rambin
The Hunger Games and Tomorrow People actress is reportedly playing Sophia, a “woman with drug problems.”
4. Michael Irby
Irby (Being Human, CSI: Cyber) takes on the role of McAdams’ partner, Elvis.
And that’s it for now, folks. It’s good to see the cast finally coming together. Let’s face it, whoever ends up in this second season will have a heck of a (probably impossible) time of maintaining the bar. I feel like it’s all going to come down to the writing; Pizzolatto either has it in him, or he doesn’t.
True Detective returns to HBO in 2015.
