'True Blood' Has Been Gone A Year, So What Are The Stars Doing Now?

The last episode of HBO’s True Blood aired on August 24, 2014. The lackluster episode “Thank You” was a fitting ending to an uneven show filled with insanity, nudity, nonsensical plots and characters, and questionable accents. At least, that’s what the internet tells me. I stopped watching True Blood partway into the second season, went back for the next to last season, and then gave up again.

Damn Maenad orgy party ridiculousness.

So what have the inhabitants of Bon Temps been up to in the 14 or so months since the series ended?

Anna Paquin was waitress/telepath Sookie Stackhouse for the entire run of the series. While on the show she met her husband of five years, Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton). The pair are parents to twins named Poppy and Charlie, as well as Moyer’s children Lilac and Billy from a previous relationship.

Paquin appeared on the cutting room floor and then in the Rogue cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past last year. This year she’s voicing t-rex Ramsey in the Pixar film Good Dinosaur and filming television mini-series Roots.

Moyer’s series The Bastard Executioner was just cancelled after one season. He’s also appeared in the television movie Killing Jesus as Pontius Pilate, the film Concussion, and has two more movies in post-production.
Sam Trammell played shapeshifter and bar owner Sam Merlotte. He has four movie roles in the can for 2015 and two more in 2016. One of those as Sonny in All Mistakes Buried , a role that won Trammell a best actor award at the Boston Film Festival.

Sookie’s brother Jason was played by Australian actor Ryan Kwanten. Kwanten has voiced Brewster the Beast Trapper in Disney’s Jake and the Neverland Pirates and as Blinky Bill in Blinky Bill The Movie. He also has three films this year. I don’t think you’ve heard of them though, sadly.
Alexander Skarsgard was the powerful and sexy Eric Northman: vampire entrepreneur and sometime Sookie banger. Skarsgard was in The Diary of a Teenage Girl this year with Kristen Wiig and Domino the Cat, who appears to be billed above him on IMDB. His credits also include War on Everyone and 2016’s Tarzan. As Tarzan.
Eric’s right hand vamp Pam was played by Kristin Bauer van Straten. I’m not sure how much of that is her last name, so Kristin took on the role of Maleficent in television series Once Upon A Time during her Pam run and continued through this season. She’s fairly active on Twitter and takes on humanitarian and ecological causes on a regular basis.
The annoying Tara Thornton was portrayed by Rutina Wesley. Wesley had a role on the sadly cancelled Hannibal and a one show appearance as Lady Cop on Arrow.
Nelsan Ellis gave us the glorious Lafayette and appeared in The Butler, Get On Up, The Help, and Secretariat during the show’s run, but has been scarce since the end of it. Ellis was in The Stanford Prison Experiment this year with Billy Crudup and has three other projects either filiming or in post-production.
Unlucky in love and life waitress Arlene Fowler was played by Carrie Preston. Preston also appeared on The Good Wife during her True Blood run, along with two other television series. She also appeared on Happyish with Steve Coogan, Bradley Whitford, and Kathryn Hahn before its cancellation. She continues to be married to Michael Emerson, aka Ben Linus from Lost.
Deborah Ann Woll was Bill’s adopted vampire kid of sorts, the forever crying Jessica. Woll is, of course, on Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. So far, she wins.
Joe Manganiello, sexy werewolf Alcide Herveaux, appeared on several television series while on True Blood, including a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother. Manganiello has also been in both Magic Mike flicks, the movie Sabotage, and will be in the upcoming Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. He also wrote a book and filmed a documentary about male strippers.
He wins.
