Tracy Morgan is finally going to be back on our screens on a regular basis, and he’s got Jordan Peele and Eastbound and Down’s John Carcieri helping him get there.
Since his 2014 accident threatened to take him away from us for years if not worse, we’ve hoped for more Tracy in our lives, as soon as he was ready. In 2015, in his first interview since the crash, he told Matt Lauer, “I love comedy and I can’t wait to get back to her, but right now my goal is just to heal and get better because I’m not 100% yet, and when I’m there, you will know. I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise.”
And that time has come.
TBS has given a 10-episode order to the new show, its pilot written by Peele and Carcieri. It was originally going to FX, but according to Vulture they decided not to order the series, leaving TBS able to swoop in.
The as-yet-unnamed show will feature Morgan as a man who gets released from prison and is is shocked to see just how much the world has changed in his absence. Returning to his newly gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood, Tracy discovers that his former girlfriend has married an affable, successful white man, who is helping raise his twin sons he never knew existed. Wanting nothing more than to connect with his kids, but having neither the money to support them nor himself, Tracy falls back on the skills he learned in prison to make ends meet while treading on unfamiliar territory.”
Welcome back, Tracy. …Tracy?
