Hereditary is a horror/thriller movie starring Toni Collette that is described thusly by Kristy’s SXSW review:
When their mentally unwell and desperately secretive grandmother passes away, her daughter Annie (Toni Collette) struggles not only with grief, but also a stabbing regret that drives her to be more attentive to her own children, angst-ridden teen Peter (Alex Wolff) and painfully awkward tween Charlie (Milly Shapiro). But the path to hell is paved with good intentions. Horrific mistakes lead to festering family bonds. And all the while, increasingly strange things happen to around the Grahams’ home.
So imagine the surprise of Australian parents that took their children to see this movie:
Only to be treated to this trailer:
Or even this new one:
Yes, that happened. A theater full of around 40 kids screaming and crying while their parents struggled to alert theater management while also shielding their children from the demented shrieks of Collette and the uncomfortable subject of death. I’m guessing there wasn’t a dry eye or seat in the house after the kids were treated to a burning human being and a kid smashing his own face into a desk.
Hereditary opens June 8th and also stars Gabriel Byrne and Alex Wolff (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).
