I think that you all know about my slight obsession with The Room and its creator, Tommy Wiseau. I was given the chance to interview Wiseau over the phone by the lovely people at Rifftrax when they did The Room in their live show.
It took three people, including myself, to listen to the interview and transcribe it into the insanity that appeared here on Pajiba. It’s pretty phenomenal.
I had heard all of the whispers about Wiseau from various online outlets, an episode of How Did This Get Made, and my own internet searching. When Greg Sestero (OH HAI MARK) wrote his account of the friendship he has with Wiseau, I immediately purchased it. The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made was everything I wanted it to be and more. It detailed how Sestero met an alien like Wiseau, how the set of The Room was just what you would expect, and how Wiseau’s real life is obscured under layers of fabrications and denial.
Then came the news that The Disaster Artist was to be a movie and James Franco would play Wiseau. I was excited, but not sure about it. Now that I’ve seen the trailers, especially this latest one, I’m 100% on board. Franco nails Wiseau.
If there is a God, Franco will win an Oscar for portraying Wiseau. It would be beautiful, kids.
