Yeah, we’re already in love with Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister, but whether or not the Imp lives through the next couple of Game of Thrones seasons, his role has to eventually end. Dinklage has already been reported attached to another HBO series, he’s in the middle of filming (*Spoilerish photos at that link) Game of Thrones and Pixels, and now he’s taken on a role in the adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale’s novel, The Thicket.
Gianni Nunnari (300: Rise of an Empire, The Departed, Seven) is producing the as yet directorless crime thriller about Jack, a man trying to rescue his kidnapped sister from a sadistic killer (who already murdered Jack’s grandfather) with a the only people he can find to help: Shorty (Dinklage), a “quick-witted” alcoholic, bounty-hunter/grave-digger, and streetwise Jimmie Sue (who I’d love to blindly suggest Gwendoline Christie play). I mean, Shorty basically sounds tailor-made for our Tyrion; without getting spoilerish for the non-Ice and Fire readers, one could almost incorporate the upcoming Lannister refugee’s storyline, roll it into The Thicket, and come up with one hell of a rollicking fan-fiction side-story. For his part, Nunnari is damned happy to have Dinklage sign on, saying “That Joe Lansdale’s dark vision will be brought to life by the brilliantly talented Peter Dinklage starring as Shorty - it is a dream of mine.”
The Thicket just got bumped to the top of my reading list.
