'There's No Way We Not Making the Movie Now!' Says Sony Regarding the Future of 'Community'

Yesterday was a rough day for some of us on the internet so the news about Community’s sixth season couldn’t have come at a better time. Yahoo Screen will air 13 news episodes this fall leaving only the movie portion to be fulfilled. In case you’re interested in the revival process itself, check out this interview with Zack Van Amburg, president of programming and production at Sony Pictures Television.

On the question of a movie, Zack Van Amburg revealed that there would most certainly be one when asked about the future prospects of the series beyond season six:

I don’t know, let’s see how our movie does! Isn’t that our plan? There’s no way we’re not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let’s look up and decide how much more Community the world wants. We promised six seasons and a movie, how much more do you want?! [Laughs.] … I’d be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it. It’s early but it’s completely in our thought process.

One of the still unresolved questions is if Donald Glover will return after leaving in the fifth episode of the past season. Jonathan Banks and John Oliver both stepped up to fill the Troy shaped hole left in the show, but I’m not sure if it ever felt the same. I suggest everyone start praying right now that he realizes his mistake.
