There is Going to Be a Peeps Movie

Finally. The stories that deserve to be told are being told.

Adam Rifkin, who previously wrote Underdog and Small Soldiers, will bring to life, in the form of both feature and TV projects, those shitty marshmallow confections no one likes. I would rather watch a movie about black jellybeans.

The film will be a holocaust war drama of a young girl coming of age under the Nazi regime. Probably. Maybe not.

The company sprung for a full-length animation feature pitch from Rifkin & Co. to adapt Peeps into a Lego Movie-esque family epic set the night before a Peeps diorama contest, when a wayward Peep gets misplaced and must adventure through the fantasy lands of different-themed dioramas before the contest’s judging begins.

Before you go writing the film off as minor, sugar-dusted fluff, it could go full drama.

Rifkin got the idea from watching his niece and nephew construct their own Peeps diorama for a school project. That led him to discover the elaborate annual contests hosted by the likes of the Washington Post, whose winning entry this year was a black and white diorama of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech - fashioned, of course, entirely out of the sugar-dusted marshmallows.

If the Peeps movie has a civil rights message, I will consider world peace attained.
