Forbes released their fascinating list of the ten highest paid actors of last year. It’s a list that includes no women, no minorities, and no members of the Pajiba 10. It looks like the key to success here is self-flagellation.
Give it up for the white dudes, y’all.
1. Johnny Depp, $75 million
2. Ben Stiller, $53 million
3. Tom Hanks, $45 million
4. Adam Sandler, $40 million
5. Leonardo DiCaprio, $28 million
6. Daniel Radcliffe, $25 million
7. Robert Downey Jr., $22 million
8. Tom Cruise, $22 million
9. Brad Pitt, $20 million
10. George Clooney, $19 million (or $.03 per twinkle)
The biggest surprise here is probably the lack of Nic Cage because you’d think, if he were only paid $4 for each film he appeared in, he’d still manage to crack the top ten on volume alone. Note, too, that only two of the above (Radcliffe and Downey, Jr.) had films in the top ten box-office hits of last year, though three of them are in this year’s top ten (Depp, DiCaprio, and Downey). Meanwhile, Tom Cruise couldn’t sell a movie ticket to a hobo if it came attached to a sandwich and a vial of crack. But they love him in Portugal.
Also, I bet Oprah made more money last year than the top 10 combined.
