The 'Snow White and the Huntsman' Sequel Is Casting Way Out Of Its League Now
When a sequel to the bland travesty that was Snow White and the Huntsman was first announced, the response was a resounding “Why?” Why make a sequel of an under-performing and just plain bad movie? But as Universal has pushed forward, the project actually starts to look better and better.
The major reasons why the first movie was such a turd were a straight-up terrible performance from Kristen Stewart and a Blandy McBlanderson director (Rupert Sanders). But The Huntsman has gotten rid of both those people. The new director, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, is a gamble, because while he’s been doing visual effects for years, this is his feature directorial debut. In the casting department, though, this movie is killing it.
The best part (the good part?) of Snow White and the Huntsman was Charlize Theron’s perfectly over the top, if stupidly named, Ravenna. Theron will be returning, as Huntsman will be a prequel, detailing the meet-cute of her character and Huntsman Thor. Nick Frost’s dwarf will also be returning, and they’ve added two more cast members to be cautiously excited about.
Emily Blunt was announced last month as being cast to play the Snow Queen, Theron’s also-totally-evil sister.
And now ginger goddess Jessica Chastain has joined the cast as Hemsworth’s love interest.
We all know that a great cast does not guarantee a great movie, and the fact that this is a sequel of an already shitty movie does not give us a great foundation for quality. But still, with a Charlize and a Thor and a Nick Frost and a Blunt and a Chastain… we can be cautiously hopeful, right?
