U2 had planned to take up residency on The Tonight Show this week, because that’s the new thing to do now (see also the Foo Fighters week on Letterman, and Metallica week on Craig Ferguson). Unfortunately, Bono had a motorcycle accident and U2 had to cancel.
That actually worked out for the better because Jimmy Fallon and the Roots decided that if U2 can’t be there to perform U2 songs, they can perform U2 songs themselves. And you know what? The Roots are better at U2ing than U2 is these days.
Here they are playing one of the best U2 tracks, “Desire,” off of Rattle and Hum.
