Couldn’t have happened to a lovelier, dopier Brit. Simon Pegg has been chosen to join the surviving members of Monty Python for their new film Absolutely Anything. The film will be a combination of live action and animation with Pegg playing “a disillusioned school teacher who suddenly finds he has magical powers, bestowed upon him by aliens” and the Monty Python boys, well, they’ll be playing the aliens.
The film will be directed by Terry Jones (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life). Pegg says of the opportunity, “As someone whose love of comedy was hugely informed by Monty Python, the chance to work with Terry was a gift. Meeting your heroes is one thing - working with them is something else.” Now for the bad news, Pegg’s dog will be voiced by Robin Williams. No, wait, where are you going? You like the genie! We can handle Williams in animated form!
One of my favorite things about Pegg is that he appears to be a genuine comedy and genre nerd who keeps lucking into working with/on his favorites. Jedi robes next, right Pegg?
Mmmmmmm. Maybe not. What do you think? Is Simon Pegg the right fit for a Python movie? You bet your bowler he is.
