As you are probably aware, ABC has decided not to move ahead with an Agents of SHIELD spin-off they were developing, which was expected to spin-off Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi Morse and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter. Paul Lee, the President of ABC — currently the best broadcast network on TV — actually has a very good reason for that:
“We absolutely love those characters on ‘SHIELD,’” so much so that they didn’t want to mess with success by attempting a spinoff at this point.”
That, folks, is the perfect answer: Bobbi Morse may be the best character on SHIELD right now, and you hate to build a new show around her to the detriment of the existing show. That’d be like spinning off Barney Stinson midway through How I Met Your Mother. You may or may not have a solid new show, but you will definitely have an old show that’s not as good.
However, that doesn’t mean that Agents of SHIELD won’t eventually get a Bobbi Morse spin-off, according to Lee. , “It’s certainly is a possibility of spinning them off.”
In other words, the SHIELD spin-off is dead. For now. But resurrecting it down the road is not out of the question.
Of course, if it were up to me, SHIELD would keep Bobbi Morse, and spin-off Skye, Grant, Lance and Mack into their own show, so that I could ignore the spin-off.
