Perhaps you remember that Fox is releasing the reboot Fantastic Four. If you didn’t, a short featurette dropped wherein director Josh Trank and writer/producer Simon Kinberg talk about all of the actors and their characters. We learn
interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits and get the tiniest glimpses of the heroes actually using their powers.
Are you excited? Because I’m not. It’s another origins story when we just saw these heroes and their story in 2005. Trank’s insights about the actors and their characters are wooden, vague, and generic. The small shots we get of The Thing (Jamie Bell), Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman (Kate Mara), Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic (Miles Teller), and Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan) are, to me, reminiscent of the 1998 Godzilla. I’m concerned that the studio is trying to tease their appearances to stoke audience interest, which generally ends with disappointment once the veil of secrecy is lifted. We’re expecting God lizard and we get No-Neck McChubthighs.
Here’s the international trailer, if you need to be lulled to sleep. Nothing gets me more hyped for a superhero flick than green fields and the dulcet tones of a narrator!
