We’ll have our full recap of Mad Men along later, but in addition to noting the foreshadowing implications of the end-credits song in last night’s classic episode, the break-out performance of Teyonah Parris — who plays Dawn on Mad Men — really has to be acknowledged with its own post. She was outstanding, adding a rare moment of triumph in a series that often wallows in gloom. She also went a long way toward making Don Draper sympathetic again, while helping to vilify Lou Avery (who, let’s admit, didn’t need that much help).
Throughout the entire episode, Teyonah Parris brought a sense of knowing wisdom to her character, a sense of humor, and when it called for it, balanced the perfect amount of rage and heartbreak. Hopefully, that performance will merit Parris a few more gigs post-Mad Men.
In the meantime, Teyonah Parris basked in her focus episode last night on Twitter, live-tweeting along as the rest of the Internet caught up to her greatness. Here’s a selection of tweets and retweets from Teyonah Parris’s Twitter account during the West Coast airing last night.
