As you’ve no doubt heard, we have a lot of Star Wars in our future. J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Time Traveling Daddy Issues (I assume) comes out this December, with two more films to follow. But in the years between those main movies, we’re also getting spin-offs, like the webisodes TV shows have started releasing while on hiatus, but with a multi-million dollar budget.
We’d previously reported that the shortlist for one spin-off’s female lead was down to Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara, and Felicity Jones. It’s now being reported (if still unofficially) that Tatiana Maslany has been cast, guaranteeing us nearly two years of Space Clones jokes.
There’s no word yet (and probably won’t be for quite a while) on who Maslany will be playing, but just to speculate wildly and unnecessarily, it was announced years ago that at least two of these spin-offs would focus on a young Han Solo and a young Boba Fett. So if we’re also looking at a new Leia, Maslany in a gold bikini is not a totally far fetched hope, right?
A side note to this project, Maslany has had to drop out of the Off-Broadway premiere of The Way We Get By. I’m all for actresses I love NOT doing Neil Labute plays, but now Amanda Seyfried has taken her place. So that’s basically a wash. Sigh.
