'Straight Outta Compton' Earns Back Nearly Twice Its Budget
In the battle of movies playing on viewer’s nostalgia this weekend, apparently more people were willing to spend their cash on reliving the late 80s early 90s rap scene than the zany and ridiculous spy comedies of the 60s. The R-rated Straight Outta Compton ended up at the top of the box office charts with $56.1 million, more than any other rap movie and the best opening for F. Gary Gray. As it was produced for only $29 million, it has already earned back nearly twice its total budget. Additionally, it earned more than four times the take of The Man From UNCLE which earned only $13.5 million and came in third place behind Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation now in its third week in theaters.
What this means for you is that it’s unlikely that the “Straight Outta [Blank]” pictures on Facebook will likely stick around for a while.
