'Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight Promises a 'Clean Slate' For That 'World War Z' Sequel No One Wanted

We heard back in May that Steven Knight would be writing a sequel to World War Z. This announcement was met with a lot of apathy and probably some eye rolling. Because the list of things we don’t need more of is pretty long, but I’d say more overly CGI’d zombtaculars rests somewhere towards the middle. But then more people saw Locke and Peaky Blinders exploded and now we can all agree that we do need more Steven Knight, right? So the general interest in this project may have shifted from “absolutely none” to cautious mild intrigue. Especially after he told Indiewire some brief thoughts on the film:

I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate.
Setting aside his hilariously casual process for choosing projects (“Why not?”), “clean slate” are great words to hear here. Maybe, given Knight’s proclivity for quiet, violent tension, the sequel might be closer in tone to Max Brooks’ fantastic book. With Knight writing, we can at least hope for less of this: world_war_z_zombiewall.gif
