Star Trek was always its best on television. Every episode its own science fiction story, the long recurring story arcs of a future world among the stars. The movies were fine. But the movies were really just the action oriented advertising for the true heart of the franchise.
But there hasn’t been a Star Trek television series 1999. And I know, I know, some of you are thinking, but Voyager and Enterprise were on after that, but that’s because you are delusional. There were only three television series. Original flavor, Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine. Well and that animated show, but we don’t talk about that one.
*channels Picard* THERE WERE THREE STAR TREK SERIES.
Suck it you Cardassians.
Anyway, there are rumors that we’re getting a new one. According to Latino Review (which somewhat randomly, is an incredibly prodigious source of accurate rumors about science fiction. No seriously, I’m not being sarcastic here), “CBS is looking to bring Star Trek back to TV”.
Oh there are speculations based on rumors and heresay over the last five years, stuff about Bryan Singer, and the possibility of setting the show long after DS9 when the Federation has started to collapse, but it’s just window dressing that’s probably all false.
So I’m going to be excited, because there’s enough disappointment to go around already.
