With the life he’s led, it’s not surprising to hear that his life story is being adapted for the big screen. What IS surprising, though, is the style in which it will be told.
20th Century Fox has gotten the life rights to Lee’s story, but rather than produce an actual biopic (so, um, scratch that headline up there, I suppose), they’re retelling it as a witty and fun, Bond-esque 70s-set action movie.
The project will be no biopic, but rather an adventure with Lee as the main character. Kingsman and Moore-era James Bond movies had dapper heroes who quipped one-liners — and, in Moore’s case, flirted with the ladies — as they sparred with larger-than-life evildoers.
This sounds like it has the potential to be over-the-top amazing and totally fun. Lee’s history starts with a humble Bronx upbringing, before changing the entire landscape of comic books, then moving to Hollywood in the ’70s to “hobnob” with the town’s elite. Any or all of that would make for a kickass, quip-filled spy movie.
Now let the dreamcasting for a witty, dapper young Stan Lee commence.
