Sorry For the Inferiority Complex, But This 9-Year-Old Just Signed a Four Book Deal
I’m really, truly sorry for all of the life choices you’ll inevitably be questioning after reading that a nine-year-old girl just sold the worldwide rights to four books to Scholastic, but don’t beat yourself up. I’m sure you’ll finish that novel, too, someday.
If it makes you feel any better, this is no ordinary child. Hilde Lysiak runs the Orange Street News, for which she rides her pink bicycle all over her home town of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, gathering local news stories.
You may have heard about Lysiak earlier this year when she broke coverage of a murder hours before any professional outlets. And because people are generally the worst, a lot of adults managed to find a whole array of problems with her precociousness. Hilde was driven to shut down the insane amount of hate thrown her way with this awesome response video.
Now Lysiak has sold four books (oh yeah, plus the film and television rights are already being shopped around), based on her experiences as a child reporter, co-written by her co-reporter father. It’s like if Nancy Drew or Harriet the Spy were memoirs written by the women themselves. Just check out these titles she’s got lined up.
The first book’s publication date will be September 2017 with Hilde Cracks the Case: Hero Dog! The second one, Bear on the Loose! drops only two months later on November 2017. The third one, UFO Spotted! drops January 2018. The fourth book Fire! Fire! will be published May 2018.
In an internet sea of overused GIFs, we’ve finally reached the moment for which this was born:
