Sony Pictures' Whackadoodie Plan to Go Up Against Marvel's 'Avengers' Involves a Few Merry Men

Rule number one: Never use your competitor’s franchise name to describe your pitch. Rule number two: Never mind Rule 1; everyone will throw money at you because it just might work.

Sony Pictures is about to make a huge investment in a multi-film franchise that frankly, sounds a little ridiculous (at least for now). Writers Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter, Priest) and Jeremy Lott (The Falling) have reportedly scored a seven-figure deal for a Robin Hood universe film series called Hood (er, Stephen Amell should start making a stink, right now). Their pitch to Sony included the buzzwords “Avengers-style universe,” and “a Mission Impossible/Fast & Furious tone,” which apparently so dazzled Sony executives, they just started throwing money as fast as they could. So does this mean we can expect to see Robert Pattinson leading a group of sexually ambiguous characters in tight but colorful costumes to break into the Sheriff’s bank (with the Beastie Boys’ Shadrach in the background, of course)? Is it wrong of me to already be dream-casting Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn as Little John? Holy shit, maybe this isn’t as crazy an idea as I thought? (But seriously, Avengers? They should have left that part out.)

(At the very least, we demand an Alan Rickman cameo.)
