The Handmaid’s Tale. Alias Grace. Oryx and Crake. The Blind Assassin. Cat’s Eye. Canadian author Margaret Atwood is hands down one of the greatest living writers, and now she’s taking her talents to a new medium.

The Guardian
reports Dark Horse Comics has acquired Atwood’s Angel Catbird. Penned by her and illustrated by Johnnie Christmas, the three-book series will begin to roll out in the fall of 2016. Of her new hero’s origins, Atwood has said:

“I have concocted a superhero who is part cat, part bird. Due to some spilled genetic Super-Splicer, our hero got tangled up with both a cat and an owl; hence his fur and feathers, and his identity problems.”

Christmas promises Atwood fans can expect “warmth, heart, humour, and lots of action” from Angel Catbird, while acquiring editor Daniel Chabon promised all this plus, “a pulp-inspired story” and “a lot of cat puns.”

THR reveals Atwood will also be contributing to the comic anthology The Secret Loves of Geek Girls, in which she’ll write and illustrate “a series of cartoons about her experience as a young woman.” This gem is due out next October, so get your 2016 Christmas list going now.
