Bow at the altar of strong German accents: Rush star Daniel Brühl (UMLAUT OR BUST) has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. You remember Rush—it’s the Ron Howard Formula One movie where Brühl and Chris Hemsworth called each other assholes for two hours in between occasionally racing some cars. Also, Brühl pronounced it “ah-SHOLE.” It was kind of delightful:
Brühl’s also known for Good Nye Lenin! [Edit: I have been made aware that I have typo’d the name of Good Bye Lenin!, and I would correct it, but I kind of like it as-is. BRÜHL BRÜHL BRÜHL! Brühl Nye the actor guy!] and Inglorious Basterds, where he played a pretty-boy Nazi sharp shooter/movie star. Deadline is saying that he’s playing a villain in Civil War, and Marvel, don’t go the HYDRA agent route. That’s too on the nose. I know he’s not a baddie, but I’m still waiting for someone to play Doop.
The official press announcement had nada to say about Brühl’s character, though it did note that he’d be joining “Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther)”… and I somehow completely missed that Black Panther is having his debut in Civil War. I am double excited now. Bring it. There doesn’t even need to be any doop.
OK, so WHO IS BRÜHL PLAYING? People who know comics better than I do—help a girl out.
