'SNL' Proves It Knows How to Treat Royalty, and Books the Best Halloween Weekend Ever*

Not *since October 31, 1981 has there been such an awesome SNL Halloween episode as the one that’s about to hit. First off, the brilliantly funny Chris Rock returns to host (after 18 years!), this Saturday. Secondly, he’ll be joined (as Rock requested) by none other than The Purple One, himself . Plus it’s Daylight Saving “fall-back” weekend, so you’ll get an extra hour of sleep, AND so you can stuff yourself with all the leftover (or steal your kid’s) Halloween candy until you fall into a blissed-out Rock-Prince-chocolate-coma. Let’s not even talk about the alcohol possibilities…

Instead of performing two separate songs (as most ‘SNL’ musical guests do) our Prince will play an eight-minute, gloriously “uninterrupted jam session.” I’m going to go ahead and make a prediction (and by “prediction” I mean, “what I want”) that he’s going to do a balls-out rendition of Purple Rain. Since the song recently marked its 30th anniversary (September 26th), and in original form, runs close to 8-minutes, whytheforknot? The performance will serve as Prince’s first television appearance since the simultaneous release and dual chart toppers Billboard Chart Toppers of Art Official Age (solo) and PlectrumElectrum (with his band, 3RDEYEGIRL). Dude is 56 mothereffing years old and he just released two “albums” that debuted at number 1.

Prince seems nearly as excited as me.

See you Saturday.
