In the wake of David Bowie’s tragic death, Labyrinth has scored scads of headlines, for better, worse and WTF.
For better, the UK theater chain Odeon offered a string of revival screenings of Labyrinth last week, with all the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. (Zimbio)
Ever wonder what happened to the Babe with the Power? Well, Toby Froud grew up to follow in the footsteps of his puppet designing mom, Wendy Froud. He’s fabricated puppets for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and ParaNorman. And when he heard the news of Bowie’s passing, he and his crew took a break from their upcoming short Lessons Learned to create this tribute vid, with himself reprising the role of the babe in “Dance Magic.” (Mental Floss)
In not-so-awesome news, Labyrinth is reportedly getting a reboot. (THR)
But hey, on the upside it’s being penned by Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman. And in the wake of internet uproar, she took to Twitter to point out this project has been in the works since 2014, and clarified it’s not a reboot. (CBR)
Guys, please don't fall for all the clickbait. No one is remaking "Labyrinth." That movie is perfect as it is.— Nicole Perlman (@Uncannygirl) January 24, 2016
Lastly, the crew over at Honest Trailers took on Labyrinth to show some Bowie love, but may have accidentally sold us on a re-imagining of this movie not being the worst idea ever.
But best to leave Jareth The Goblin King out of it. No one could ever compete with Bowie.
