More than three seasons of a show? Don’t be so middle class. Maggie Smith is reported to be leaving “Downton Abbey” after the upcoming third season, although she did indicate that she would be around for the Christmas special. Rumors had begun to spinculcate after it became known that she did not in fact have a contract after the second season.

Smith told show runners that she was ready to be done after this season, and she will be “struck down by a fatal illness at the end of the third series.” The character I mean, not the actress. That would be a really harsh termination agreement.

Americans will not get to see the new season until January of 2013 because apparently the British have forgotten the lessons of Yorktown.

With the nearly inevitable end of “Fringe” looming, I think that it’s time to assemble a modern super team of fictional characters a la The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. They have no connection other than being characters formerly on different shows over the last few years:

Countess Crawley
Walter Bishop
Perry Cox
Al Swearengen
Atia of the Julii

Bonus pain: for the nineties version of this list, you can only pick Mulder or Scully.
