'Saturday Night Live' Lets Go Of Two More Cast Members

Saturday Night Live continues to pare down this week, returning to a sensible number of cast members. After it was announced that Brooks Wheelan had been let go from the show yesterday, Noel Wells and John Milhiser were let go today. Neither really come as a surprise. They were the three I’d predicted would be let go back in May, along with Nasim Pedrad, whose departure has also been confirmed (she’s going to Fox’s Mulaney sitcom).

Noel Wells was perhaps best known for her Lena Dunham and Zooey Deschanel impressions, though her very best work can be found on YouTube (she’s brilliant in Manic Pixie Nightmare Girl). Milhiser, meanwhile, had a really good … Jon Cryer impression? I believe Milhiser had the least amount of screentime this season (Brooks Wheelan had the second least). In fact, Milhiser was pretty much a non-factor after the Christmas break.

SNL is now back down to a leaner, more manageable cast of 13, which should make it easier for the existing new cast members (particularly Beck Bennett, Mike O’Brien, and Kyle Mooney) to break out next season, while veterans Kate McKinnon, Taran Killam, Aidy Bryant, and Cecily Strong continue to carry the show.
