A couple of days ago, rumors swirled that Disney would rethink its position on firing James Gunn following the decision of the entire cast to ask for his reinstatement.

However, Variety is now reporting (EXCLUSIVELY) that Disney will not rehire James Gunn to own the alt-right, opting instead to continue owning the libs, except for all of those libs who think Disney made the right decision and “fuck him, he’ll be fine.”
The feeling within both Disney and Marvel is that the dozens of so-called jokes that Gunn made about pedophilia and rape are unacceptable in the #MeToo era and are not in line with Disney’s family-friendly image … The involvement of the highest levels of Disney signals that the cast pressure to rethink the Gunn ouster will struggle to gain internal support. “I don’t see Disney re-hiring him,” says one person close to the matter. “Those tweets were so horrible and Disney has a different standard than other studios.”
The jokes were, indeed, horrible for the #MeToo era. They were also horrible for the year in which they were delivered, and while most fans of Gunn have allowed for the possibility that James Gunn has evolved/matured/grown over the last 10 years — and do not believe that making jokes about pedophilia actually makes a person a pedophile — Disney probably just doesn’t want those tweets to follow the director of one of its major superhero series around for the next few years. That’s perhaps unfortunate, but possibly also fair, because it’s inevitable that a reporter on a junket — liberal or conservative — would ask Gunn about certain past tweets like this one: “The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!’” which would prompt another week of headlines leading up to the release of the next Guardians films.
That’s not a situation that any studio wants to be in, much less Disney, which also apparently has no intentions of working with Johnny Depp again, because Disney has decided to be a “family friendly” studio starting … 13 days ago, when Disney rebooted its workplace policies and James Gunn was fired and anything prior to 13 days ago is not canon, because they’re skipping from Walt Disney straight to 13 days ago, except for all that stuff about Walt Disney being sexist, anti-Semitic, and racist.
Meanwhile, the studio is in no hurry to find a replacement for Gunn, in part because it’s unlikely that the cast is willing to work with another director anytime soon. But they will. Because they’re under contract, and Disney owns all their asses.
The Office star Jenna Fischer, who was married to James Gunn at the time he made those tweets, has thankfully not been embroiled in this mess. Nevertheless, the two remain the cutest divorced couple ever.
