Live TV versions of musicals have become A Thing lately, and I think we can all blame NBC for that. They range from pretty awful (Peter Pan) to sort of dull (The Sound of Music) to fairly impressive but weirdly devoid of applause (The Wiz). We’ve mentioned before that Fox was planning to get in on the game with a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show starring Laverne Cox as Dr.Frank-N-Furter. That’s the good news. This week the casting of Janet and Brad was released and, well, here’s your new Janet:

To be fair, she’s got kind of an interesting voice. Deeper than I would have expected for a kids show star anyway. But Rocky Horror is something of a beloved counter-culture property and I’m pretty sure that nothing happening in that video would be considered subversive in any way.

Brad will be played by Ryan McCartan, who has had a few bit parts on TV but who was a part of Heathers: The Musical which is slightly more in line with the tone of Rocky Horror. The full production won’t be on Fox until sometime in the fall, so we’ve got a lot of time to wait to see how this actually turns out.
