Rihanna Had Some Choice Words ('F*ck You') For CBS This Morning

You may recall that last week, during the first Thursday Night Football broadcast on CBS, the NFL originally had lined up a Rihanna intro before show. However, at the last minute, CBS (which was in a terrible position) changed its plans. Instead, the network decided to devote the opening to the Ray Rice situation (which feels so long ago, already, after the Adrian Peterson situation) and the network decided to pull the more bombastic opening number in part because they were going for a more somber mood, and in part because Rihanna had a very high-profile incident involving domestic abuse with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, and CBS didn’t want to seem insensitive.

Instead of focusing on the fact that Rihanna is a survivor of DV and celebrating that, CBS decided to pull her performance. OK. Fine. Fair enough. It was a difficult decision, and they probably were damned if they did, and damned if they didn’t. Most are suggesting that the network made the right decision.

Rihanna didn’t address the issue at the time. She let it lie until today, when apparently CBS asked if they could air her introduction — a rendition of Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” that also featured Kanye — this week. Rihanna, who probably doesn’t have the ability to prevent it from happening, nevertheless expressed her frustration with grown-up words.

The audacity, indeed.
