I’ve had Andy Weir’s The Martian on standby to read as soon as I’ve finished my Hannibal reread, and I can hardly wait to start. Not only has the book received great reviews, but master director, Ridley Scott is getting ready to shoot the film in Budapest next month. I am a little perplexed though — all the novel descriptions liken the story to Castaway, or Robinson Crusoe in space — why the huge cast? Since announcing he was ready to film with Matt Damon headlining as Mark Watney, Scott has rounded up a phenomenal group of actors — but who are all these major stars playing? (Only three characters have been announced.)
Jessica Chastain (Melissa Lewis)
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Sean Bean
Sebastian Stan
Kate Mara
Mackenzie Davis
Jeff Daniels
Kristin Wiig
Michael Peña (Mitch Henderson)
Donald Glover
Aksel Hennie
Holy crap, that’s one crowded island spaceship (planet?)!
The Martian script is being adapted by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, World War Z); expect the film in theaters November 25, 2015.
