Ridley Scott Has the 'Blade Runner' Sequel, 'Prometheus 2' and 'The Martian' Ready to Go

Though he’s just putting the finishing touches on December’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, Ridley Scott isn’t taking a break — he’s got three more films in the wings, all science fiction.

First up will be an adaptation of Andy Weir’s The Martian, starring Matt Damon as stranded astronaut, Mark Watney. Presumed dead after a violent storm on Mars, Watney must survive on his own…a la Tom Hanks. Shooting in Wadi Rum and Budapest begins this November.

Scott hopes another “survivor,” Harrison Ford’s Richard Decker will return for his Blade Runner sequel. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have already written the script, which Scott says is “damned good.”

Finally, despite the fact that many of us were hugely disappointed by the problematic yet gorgeous Prometheus, we probably couldn’t be held back from the theater when Prometheus 2 hits the screen. On the plus side, there’s a new writer (Transcendence’s Jack Paglen); on the minus, it’s already being rewritten by Michael Green. So far, the sequel will see the return of Noomi Rapace’s not so smart Elisabeth Shaw, along with Michael Fassbender’s last-seen headless David; presumably they’re on their way to look for more killer Engineers…and good luck with that. The sequel is currently scheduled for a March 4, 2016 release.
