Late last night, someone reported that they heard a gunshot in the home of Stephen Collins, a report that subsequently was tweeted by a neighbor, which did what things on Twitter do: It spread quickly. However, the LAPD investigated the report and found that Collins had not committed suicide. In fact, he wasn’t even home at the time.
The investigating police officer was less than thrilled with the woman who tweeted the rumor she heard from a neighbor.
Meanwhile, more details about Stephen Collins’ confession to molesting several underage girls have surfaced. Foremost among those details is that the tapes themselves are allegedly between 20 and 40 years old, according to Collins’ lawyer, and his estranged wife, Faye Grant, has been threatening to use them for at least two years, only to do so on the eve of the divorce.
This is unsettling for a number of reasons: That his estranged wife, Grant, would use the tapes for extortion purposes or to get a better deal out of a divorce, and that she didn’t report the incidents much earlier, especially in light of revelations that she made about the threat he posed to their own children. The fact that they are 20 to 40 years old (Collins is 67) makes not a damn bit of difference about his guilt, but, in all likelihood, the statute of limitations has passed on any of the victims mentioned in the tapes.
Moreover, Grant originally released the tapes to police in 2012. Collins was investigated at the time, and cleared of charges because they could not verify a victim. In light of the tapes being made public, the police are re-opening the case.
In addition, in court filings, Grant suggests there could be more victims.
“Stephen and I were married 27 years,” she said in court filing later obtained by TMZ. “We were separated on February 2, 2012. On January 19, 2012, I learned for the first time that Stephen had been living a secret life. … Stephen’s therapist subsequently disclosed to me that Stephen has narcissistic personality disorder with sociopathic tendencies.”
Grant described how 67-year-old Collins, who appeared in films from “All the President’s Men” to “Blood Diamond,” exploited his acting connections. “I believe Stephen used his celebrity status to engender the trust of the families of the children he molested. I further believe that there have been other victims, but he has thus far only confessed to those three girls. … Obviously, I am sickened by Stephen’s actions.” TMZ also reported that the New York Police Department is investigating several alleged incidents involving Collins. via The Washington Post
This is an ungodly ugly situation, and all I hope is that justice is eventually served.
