Reese Witherspoon IS Peggy Lee

Not counting her voice work in Monsters vs. Aliens, Reese Witherspoon hasn’t actually been in a movie since Four Christmases in late 2008, and her last hit before that was Walk the Line, which nabbed her a Best Actress Oscar. So it only makes sense that she’s going back to that well, tackling the life story of another prominent performer: Peggy Lee.

Witherspoon will star as the singer-songwriter, while Nora Ephron (Julie & Julia) will write and direct, while some of the money men behind Reese’s breakout Legally Blonde pictures will produce. And beyond that, I’m not sure what else to say. It sounds like total Oscar bait, and I won’t pretend to be overly familiar with Lee’s career or personal life beyond a few of her tunes, but I hope it turns out well because I’m probably going to end up sitting through it regardless.

Let’s face facts, though — it’s not gonna be half as good as Just Like Heaven.
